  1. Please allow me to set the record straight about my 'bad boy' ancestor, William James Acker, a.k.a. James Warren.
First, his father Henry Edgar (Edwin) Acker left his first wife in the Catskills for the bright lights of Broadway and the big city. In fact, a relative from Greene County, New York indicated his family lost touch with him. He was an engineer of the train sysetm in NYC with multiple marriages, but ZERO divorces. He abandoned families behind him and even took one lady he married to court for BIGAMY.
Next, Rosanne was wife #4 or #5 and he abandoned her when she got pregnant in 1896. James was born in 1897, but has not been located in the 1900 Federal Census. He appears in 1905 NY Census with his aunt's family - his mother already in California.
Finally, apart from shoe-horned census records on the east coast, William James Acker never appeared to have married. Even the later year arrest in 1946 indicates a marriage relationship that was/is unknown to the family and no primary documented evidence has been discovered. And California is one of the better states for maintaining such records.
His cause of death in 1946 at the Prison Hospital was listed as Hodgkins disease.
I continue to work on the timeline and research of William James Acker and have my personal doubts of arrests/convictions in Texas and Arizona due to timing issue with his activities in California.
