Carl Walter Wilwerding: Burglary. Murder, Escape

Carl Walter Wilwerding Alias Michael Wholwend was born 14 Jul 1935 in St Cloud, MN to Thomas Nicholas Wilwerding (1894-1938) and Martha Melinda Allen (1900-1954).

His first trouble must of started when he joined the Army 10 May 1953 and was dishonorably discharged 18 Jan 1954. He committed a burglary with Ivan Alfred Trueax who was convicted and put into Idaho State Prison with him.

Ivan was born 7 Oct 1936 in Oregon he married Jane Bales 18 Dec 1956 in Oregon and they divorced 27 Apr 1965.Ivan died 30 nov 1965 in Siskiyou County, CA.

Carl went on to murder in Aug 1960. He killed his prospecting partner by shooting him in the face, he fled to Oregon to his families home and was arrested their by Federal Agents.

In 1967 Carl and and another inmate Donald C Ward in the San Quentin prison in California escaped together.

His mother Martha remarried on 10 Mar 1941 to Leo Frank Wohlwend (1897-1979) they had 2 children together
Leona Martha Wohlwend 1943-
William Leo Wohlwend 1944-1944

Martha and her first husband Carl's father had the following children, Carl was the youngest
Thomas Nicholas Wilwerding 1926-1988
Junita Margaret Wilwerding 1929-
Eva Louise Wilwerding 1932-1983

Carl was examined by the Idaho State Hospital when he was incarcerated and on his card above there is a notation saying they wanted to know what causes there were for him to be so tough. Looks to me like part of the problem could of started with the death of his father. I notice he was the last to die so he lived with all his family dying before he did. He died 7 Apr 2007 in Klamath Falls, OR. So he must of gotten paroled from San Quentin at some point.

Very sad story, it makes me want to know much more.

Update: 17 March 2019

The TiPs process began 40 years ago from a concept created by inventor Carl (Mike) Wilwerding.  Mike dreamed of the day when he could clean the world of its garbage using a simple system to reclaim waste components back into their original elements.   Based off of his patented thermal decomposition apparatus, Mike refined the technology and developed it over the years to process a variety of waste streams including municipal garbage, sewage sludge, manure, aluminum oil, rubber, bleaching clays, PCB’s, plastics, diatomaceous earth and chicken waste.  Each processor was carefully designed to ensure that the chemical reaction was stable, sustainable and the net energy balance was positive.
