Jodie Robert (Bob) Crook was born 11 Oct 1927 in Lawton, OK, To Fred "Bud" Crook and Ollie Ellis.
On 6 June 1951 in Dallas, TX he married June Marie Erikson, they had 3 children together.
This story is hard for me to tell because June was my mother's close friend and they worked together at JcPenney's in Sioux Falls, SD. On 8 Oct 1957 that would change and many lives would be destroyed.

There relationship was a rocky one, Jodie seemed to find trouble and would leave months at a time then show up out of the blue.
11 Nov 1942 he was arrested in Santa Barbara for Burglary and was placed on probation. 23 Apr 1946 he got 18 months in Settle, WA for theft from mail. in Los Angeles, CA he =was thrown in the clink for disturbing the peace. On 7 Sep 1952 he took money from a till and a car from the garage at the gas station he was working at.
He left his family 27 June 1957 and wasn't heard from again until he shot and killed his wife on 8 Oct 1957. She had just filed for divorce 23 Sep 1956 and the affidavit was published in the newspaper on 18 Sep 1957. She was done, he wasn't supporting her and the children.
June was a smart kind, loving women, she absolutely adored and loved her three children. They day her life was taken so was the life of her unborn child.
Jodie was sentenced to life in prison hard labor, he was out by 1973 because he married the 18 Apr 1973 to Janice Eversol (1937-2014) in Sioux Falls, SD. I do not know if they had any children.
Jodie died 18 Nov 2010 in Porterville, CA. All know about his family is that his mother was living in California at the time he murdered June.
My mom and June went to lunch together which was something they did together everyday. As they got back to Jc Penney building June got off at the 3rd floor and my mom was a floor above her, My momma heard the shots and knew instantly it was June, co-workers kept mom where she was, they didn't want her to see June. My mom took the 5 year old boy in (I am not mentioning names because they are still alive) She took care of him for a few days until the family could decide where he would live, all the children were separated throughout the family., That really broke my heart. I hope they can all know how wonderful their mother was and that she really loved them all so much.
I will be updating as information on deceased ancestors becomes available.

Hello, I don’t know if this is possible. But this is my grandmother, my father never really mentioned his parents except when Jodie die and he went to confirm the identity. I have always been curious about what grandma June was like. If you are comfortable sharing any stories, that would mean a lot to me and possibly even my siblings.
ReplyDeleteSomeone else contacted me as well a daughter of Jodie & June's you might want to scroll through the comments, I will look and see if I can find her name, She actually called my mom and talked to her, as my mom was June's best friend and they worked together and my mom was in the stair well and heard the shots, but she was a landing above her and did not see it.
DeleteThere were 3 children 2 boys and a girl, the girl lived with an Aunt I believe.
DeleteShe got adopted by a distant relative in Florida is all my dad told me. My dad was the youngest and lived with his grandmother
ReplyDeleteShe called and talked to my mom for several hours, with her Aunt on the line as well.
