George Stevens was from Kansas.

He killed Milton Cannon 4 JUly 1893

George had a wife named Lydia Whelchel (Not sure if her last name is her maiden name or another married name).

George also had a sister named Mrs. Hyatt and a sister named Mary who was 13 years old at the time and took the stand in the trial. He also had a sister named Belle and a Uncle named Bob Stevens.

Here are the newspaper articles about the murder:

In July of 1899 George asks for a pardon. He says in the article he was shielding his sister and that she was the one who killed the man. They also state the man murdered had an autopsy and it was state in the death record he died from apoplexy. As I read all the article that was not mention but the dead man they couldn't identify right away because of how long the body had been in the ravine.

At the trial his wife and sister's pretty much testified against him. He was arrested in Oct of 1893 and let go because there wasn't enough evidence. Then he was arrested again for it in early of 1896.

I think George was a rough and tough guy, but I am not sure about the murder.

I made him a tree on Ancestry and attached all his family from the newspaper that were mentioned and I got very small amount of information for his genealogy. I found no other trees.
