Mrs. Nancy Wilson: Manslaughter

Nancy may have been born Nancy Yates, in about 1896 in England. She married a Mr. Wilson and they had 2 sons one about 2 years old and one 4 months in 1933.

This is her story:

Inmate #54538 San Quentin Prison (California)
Rec: 5 Aug 1933
Crime: Manslaughter
Term: 0-10 years

Tulare County Sheriff & Jail Record (California)

Nancy didn't have a lot of patience for her baby son and he cried often. Mrs. Aslund befriend her and saw this first hand.

There's not one mention of her husband, where is he?

Nancy slapped her 4 month old son because he wouldn't stop crying and killed him from the blow to his head.

Here are some newspaper clippings about her trial, at one point she was under suicide watch.

Why was Nancy alone without a husband, was she a widow? Was she abandoned? Was she divorced? Where was he?

I have no judgement against Nancy, I never walked in her shoes. I feel sad for her and the poor little boys, both of them. I made her a tree but I didn't find much genealogy information.  I got her maiden name from the newspaper and never found a immigration records. The newspaper also mention her possibly being deported, I didn't find any of those records either.

Sometimes we just have to except that we will never know all the answers and leave it at that, with no judgements, it is what it is and we weren't there. Sad as it is.
