Anthony was a seaman, a ship carpenter and sailmaker.
I found a newspaper article:
He had a few run in while landing in Australia, 19 Jan 1884 he got a 2 month stint in jail for larceny and earlier in 1839 was was sentenced to East Maitland. He deserted his ship a few times which was a huge deal, but as can you can imagine in that day pulling into port where and what do the men want to do after months at sea??? Drink and women so the first pub in sight is where they gather and when you have men drinking you have fighting, most likely over a women because there wouldn't be enough to go around.
There were many times he would be needed to fix damaged sails or make new ones. As a carpenter he would fix things that were broken around the ship and maintain it.
In 1910 he was in the Alaskan Territory, this was the last document found for Anthony. I bet he could tell us a bunch of adventurous stories, I would love to hear them all and write them all down. Who knows maybe he left a journal somewhere.
