The Allegheny County Workhouse was a prison that operated from 1869 to 1971. It was primarily for inmates convicted of minor offenses and many of them were ordered to help maintain an apple orchard and farm nearby.
Charles was a painter, not an artist painter but a house painter. I didn't find out when he died, he was married and a widow in the 1930 census and in the 1940 census he is listed as married again.
I found his WWI record:
Stationed at Camp Green, N.C. 6 Oct 1918 until 10 Jan 1919, was in the Pittsburg Jail by March. He was honorably discharged.
14 Feb 1939 in Allegheny County, PA he married Ruth B Ford. She was born Jan 1901 in West Virginia.
I didn't find any other information for them. I made him a tree on Ancestry, so hopefully someone is searching for him. I wish I would of found a newspaper article for him.
