Hilary "Hillie" Yerger Moten: Vio. Of The Internal Revenue Law

Hilary "Hillie" Yerger Moten was born 18 Mar 1866 in Texas to Tana or Tansy (I believe his full name may have been Tennessee) Moten (1862-) & Lucinda (1863-).

Inmate: 14702 Leavenworth Federal Prison
Rec: 20 Nov 1919
Crime: Vio. of the Internal Revenue Law
Term: 2 years
Age: 33

He had beautiful penmanship

He was married in 6 Feb 1904 to Madeline Carroll in Williamson, Texas, I didn't find any information about her. He then was married to a Roxie (1897-) and they had a daughter named Eloise born in 1918 in New Mexico.

Hillie was a smart man and was held in high regard in his community. I found lots of newspaper articles on him when he lived in Roswell, NM.

This fight was at the Elks Lodge where Hillie was the proprietor.

In 1931 he held a charity ball there:

Hillie's last known resident was 313 W Mathews, in Roswell, NM

Even though I didn't find much genealogy information on him, the newspaper articles sure helped paint a picture of his life.
He seemed to be a good businessman as well as having a busy life. Too bad his old shed burned down, but thankfully that was all that went, wonder what caused it.
Hillie died 12 Dec 1933 in Roswell, NM.

  1. Violations of the Internal Revenue Code? If he was cheating on his own taxes, he'd have been convicted of Tax Evasion. I'll bet he was the guy in charge of settling the taxes for the lodge he managed and the IRS found something wrong with his numbers.
