Jim Chico: Assault To Do Bodily Harm

Jim Chico was born Apr 1877 in California to William Chico & Jennie Lupa.

Inmate: 7109 Folsom Prison
Rec: 20 Oct 1908
Crime: Assault to do Bodily Harm
Term: 1 1/2 yrs

Seems Jim and Tom Pope got into an argument and Jim shot him 20 May 1908. While Jim was in prison he acted meek and docile and then made his escape 15 Jul 1909. There were several wanted posters disputed for his capture.

I found some newspaper articles on the shooting, trail and his escape.

I also found an article from 1904 where he was arrested for a misdemeanor.

Jim was married to Anna "Nanie" Maiden name unknown, and they had the following children.
Musie 1902-
Frank 1906-
Antone 1908-

Jim's father was a well known man and I found this awesome photo of him.

He was called "OLd Bill"

This family went by the last name Checo, later in years the government started calling them Chico.

I did not find a death record for Jim, But those old wanted posters will be a real treat for family members when they find them attached to the tree I made him.

Comments

  1. The court only gave him 18 months, that wasn't nothing at all for murder. But I guess for Indiana Jim, it was too much. He only had a few months to go.

  2. Maybe something happened to a family member or something of that nature and that's why he escaped.
