He was married to Lillian Theresa Samuels (1876-1949)  on 5 Aug 1903 in Los Angeles, CA. They had two daughters, Annis Josephine Keyes (1904-1987) & Elizabeth Minette Keyes (1905-1989).

He was known as a prolific district attorney in the nation. He worked in Los Angeles for 25 years and sent over 5,000 offenders to San Quentin Prison. He took huge bribes from those who could afford them so they would never see in the inside of a prison cell, the under privileged however would never get a deal or a break. When he was sent to San Quentin they had to keep  him on death row because the underprivileged inmates he sent would surely kill him the first chance they got. One famous safecracker was being kept on death row as a protective witness, he was Herbert Wilson "King of the Safecrackers." Herbert was convicted of murder but before his trial he paid Asa $50,000 to go easy on him.

In 1931 he told the San Francisco newspaper :
The mass resentment and hatered of 400 men which seems as tangible as the prison walls, the monotony of endless days without hope, the association with the dregs of humanity, all combine to turn the average prisoner into a worse man instead of a better one.
I don't know what to suggest in place of prison.....It is a thing more terrible than most people realize.

He does about 18 months.

If your a conspiracy guru you can look on Newspapers.com for more of the cases Asa Keyes worked on. Funny thing is his mother's maiden name was Taylor, no connection I found, but imagine if there were.
