Merlyn Eli Pace & Leonard Roy Beck: Liked to steal cars

Merlyn Eli Pace was born 4 Nov 1919 Lake City, MN to Eli Whitney Pace (1891-1969 ) & Emma Katherine Ehlers (1895-1990).

Inmate: #12266 Montana State Prison
Rec: 28 Aug 1938
Crime: Grand Larceny
Term: 1 Yr
Age: 18

This is similar to the car he stole, which tells me he was a wanna be gangster. He had a juvenile record for stealing a car.7 Jun 1933 and was placed on probation. He then on 22 June 1938 was caught tampering with an automobile (Trying to steal it) plead guilty and received 60 days in jail.

His partner in this crime was Leonard Roy Beck born 29 July 1920 in St. Paul, MN to Leonard Beck & Sarah Jennie O'Leary.

They were in juvenile Court together, may have been when and where they met.

The boys spent 1 year in prison together in Montana and they day they are released they head back to Minnesota and steal another car and are wanted by the police.

Leonard had a few mishaps

Merlyn was married twice, first to Carmen Vanderkolk on 17 Apr 1972 in Las Vegas, NV and divorced on 21 May 1977 in Los Angeles, CA, he was then married to Loseli Hungalu Raas on 28 Oct 1980 in Las Vegas, NV they were divorced 8 Nov 1982/ I found no children...

Merlyn died 23 Jun 1997 in San Bernardino, CA.

Leonard was married to Irene L. (Unknown Maiden Name). they had a son Dennis Michael Beck (1947-1997).

This is all the info I found on them. I am sure they did time together in the Minnesota State Prison for stealing that car. They both had FBI files so when I made their trees I added a note for relatives to get those files, they will need an Freedom of Information Act filed with request.

I bet they found the gangster life wasn't all it was cracked up to be.
