They would have a son in 1913 that was stillborn


They would have a second son James Frederick Lanning Jr born BIRTH 20 FEB 1918 • Boise, Ada, Idaho, USA he would die DEATH 4 OCT 1994 • Carson City, Nevada, USA.

May and James would divorce and he would go off to California where he would be arrested in 1927 for violating the Drug Act and be sent to McNeil Island a Federal Prison in Washington.

The article doesn't explain much just his charge along with a bunch of others who violated this law.


James would Marry again to a Teresa (1884-1969). I did not find out when or where but they are buried together according to Find A Grave. Which also doesn't mention a maiden name.


James died 8 Oct 1954 in San Francisco, CA here's his obit.



I wonder if losing both parents at an early age had something to do with him taking off from Peoria, IL at age 19 and heading across the country. I doubt he had a car, I would bet he was hitching rides and hopping trains, as that what they did back then. I would bet he was either selling drugs or doing them I did find a passenger list (see below) where he had been in Korea in 1946.
