He said his occupation was a waiter, I found these newspaper articles of his crimes, seems he started as a juvenile and was in reform school.

1883

George was married to
Gertrude M Bantow (1860–1914) She divorced him while he was in prison doing time but they did have the following children.

Gertrude Susan Dunbar

1888–1958

Carrie E Dunbar

1890–1924

Raymond Stanley Dunbar

1895–1970

Pearl M Dunbar

1898–1928

His father was from England and his mother from Ireland, they were living in Oakland, CA when he was 11. His father was a laundry man before leaving San Francisco, he continued this occupation in Oakland. By 1900 he had moved his business to Alisal, now also called East Salinas, the first post office there opened in 1866.

His father would die in San Francisco in 1928, I found his funeral record.

I found these photo's of him in Mexico while his granddaughter was on her honeymoon.

Lilac Ingram and husband William Nathaniel Ingram were on their honeymoon.  The man in this photo with her is her grandfather Joseph Dunbar.

He was Civil War soldier.

His mother would die in 1905 she was only 69 yrs old.

His siblings were:

Elizabeth Dunbar
1872–1959
Joseph William Dunbar
1877–1959
Richard Dunbar
1878–1954
Kate Dunbar
1873–
Now comes the mystery, The prison records said he died 10 Mar 1913, but family records and Find-A Grave have him dying 30 Dec 1953.
I found a funeral record for the 1913 date.

I have not had a death wrong on a prison record yet, not saying it can't happen. So which is correct? Guess a death cert would till, unless I have the wrong family for him which I doubt.
