Wilbur Benjamin: Rape and Murder of 14 Year Old Violet Gilmer

Wilbur Benjamin was born in 1886 in California. He had never been in trouble before as the newspaper reported.

He was executed the 28 Oct 1910, with no struggle, the newspapers reported, he was hung from the gallows at 10:30 in the morning. He was allowed to smoke a cigar while the warrant was being read to him. He weighted 153 lbs was 6' 3" tall, the fall broke his neck and it took 13 minute's and 33 seconds for him to die. The body was cut down and he was buried in the prison cemetery. His father had visited him the nigh before but did not claim his body.

Violet was found dead on a road she walked daily from school to home, by her father on Oct 6th and Wilbur was arrested by the 8th and confessed.

His parents might of been Ben Benjamin & Mary A. living in Round Valley on the Indian Reservation from 1900 to 1930. Ben lived to be 90 years old. He was from the Concow Tribe
