Was May Lane telling the truth??? Or was she too embarrassed by the allegations?? I think they were looking for trouble. The testimony indicated they went there with the intent to kill Jesse Goodwin Foulk. He was born 13 Jul 1873 in California to George Foulk & Nina Herbert McDaniel. He was only 19 when he was murdered.

Jesse, at nineteen years of age, was working as a delivery clerk for W. T. Ellis & Son when he died. He was wounded, then two days later died, in a shooting at Shelton's Grove, Linda Township. Jesse was dating a young girl, the daughter of William R Lane, he had been persistent in keeping her company, even though the girl's father gave Jesse warnings to stay away. Their last meeting occurred during the closing hours of the dance at the grove. They had been there together when the father, in the company of a man named Lucien Danley, appeared and each with a pistol in hand. The father grabbed his daughter by the shoulder with one hand and pointed a pistol at her head with the other, then commanded her to go with him, and started to dragged her away. As soon as the girl was grabbed up by her father, Danley presented a pistol at Jesse's head, and told him not to move. The young man did not obey and attempted to rise to his feet, and then the shooting started. When the girl saw her father with a pistol in his hand, she screamed for help, and her cries were met with a response from a young colored man named Henry Flowers, he too was shot and died a few hours later. The father, William R Lane was also shot and received life threatening injuries, but survived and was later sent to State prison, Danley was arrested and admitted to his part in the shootings.

The 1900 census has Baxter in prison at Folsom, the 1910 census has him living in Solider, ID. By Dec of 1910 he's in Worchester, MA married on 5 Dec 1910 to Grace Vida Rolston (1872-1948). They have a couple kids and move to Idaho.

1920 census they are living in Shoshone, ID I did not find him in a 1930 census but in the 1940 census he is living in Mackay, ID. He marries a second time 24 Aug 1926 in Eureka, IL to Viola May Mills (1881-1952).
