Dr, Harry Harnash was born 1 July 1885 in Zedik, Gubkoono, Russia, his father was David Harnash.
He was Naturalized 6 Dec 1904 in New York. He was an Optician. His first appears in an article about coming home from Europe in 1921.

I was reading a book that Manny Grossman recommended (search him on YouTube he has some wonderful videos on Son of Sam). I came across this man Dr. Harry Harnash so I made him a tree on Ancestry and started digging. I then started searching for newspaper articles on him and this is how and why I have come to write his story. Now there is much more to this story that of course we just do not know and will not know until that Time Machine is up and running and we can go watch him.
The book that lead me down this path was Beyond Son of Sam by Jonathan Mitchell it's 99 cent on Amazon for your Kindle.
If you are a true crime buff like me I highly recommend it.

As for his counterpart who went to prison with him for the abortion performed. Dr.Malcolm Yohannan, he went back to his own practice but he saw his death on 4 Aug 1946, Yohannan died after falling twenty feet from a second-story window at his home. His wife told police that she had seen the doctor going through the window, and had tried unsuccessfully to grab him. She said that Yohannan had been “ill” for about two weeks.
I am finding this interesting.

ReplyDelete“Oculist” is an old-fashioned word for an eye doctor. For whatever reason, it was spelled with two “C’s,” so I see why you got confused. But there’s only one “T” in that word on the draft card, not two. And since he WAS an eye doctor….
