The allegedly real killer

James Conley was employed at the factor as a janitor.

An article 106 years later

Alonzo Mann

Revelations of 83-year-old Alonzo Mann, who as a 14-year-old was Frank’s office assistant. In a deposition, Mann swore that on the day of the murder, he entered the factory lobby and saw Conley carrying Phagan’s body. Conley, Mann said, threatened that if he mentioned this to anyone, he’d kill him.

On 17 Aug 1915 25 members of a secret vigilante group, entered Milledgeville Prison Farm, without any resistance they took Leo on a 175 mile ride to Marietta, GA. Mary's Hometown, and they lynched him before a howling crowd. They proudly posed with his hanging dead body with it's broken neck.

This Cornell graduate's life came to an end 16 Aug 1915.
