Joseph Freitas was born about 1886 in Hawaii, parents might be Sabastian Freitas & Maria de Jesus. There is another Joseph born in Hawaii but his parents were Antoine & Maria.
Joe's criminal career started in early part of the 1900's
1917 he might of been in prison again, now this looks like our man, but he claims he was born in California and his identifying marks do not include any tattoo's so he may not be our man at all, unless the prison officer figured they already had all that info and didn't record it. It's happened.
The 1920 & 1930 Census has him listed in prison in California.
In the late 1920's he is again locked up.
Now this guy looks even different than the first one but his identifying marks match the second mugshot I found.
So on 26 Apr 1936 Joe dies in prison here is his prison grave.

I searched newspapers and I didn't find any articles about any of these crimes with these dates. There was a Joe Freitas who was messing around with a young lady and got her pregnant and the father pressed charges for rape and the court said no they should marry, it was consensual, that was 1914 or 1917.
This is a prime example of how hard it can be to find an ancestor's criminal records. I am not sure 100% but I do feel they are the same guy.
