Asa Fario "Azzie" Morris was born 26 Dec 1909 in Texarkana, TX to John/ James S. Morris (1874-????) & Carrie Ann Henry (1877-1961) .

Crime: Robbery With A Firearm
Term: 10 Yrs & Cost: $116.40
His 3rd prison term


He went on to California 


Inmate: #62406 San Quentin Prison
Rec: 3 Sep 1938
Crime: Robbery 1st degree


Azzie was then transferred to Folsom Prison on the same day and became prisoner # 22094

In 1948 he is back in Texas as a prisoner in Huntsville.

I couldn't locate a newspaper article on that crime.


Azzie was married at least twice, 

Janice Mae Nolan (1912-1979)  they married 8 Dec 1952 in Portsmouth, VA she also was married 3 time including this one.

2nd to Eva Louise Gillett (1912-1990) didn't find a marriage record. She had 3 marriages including this one. Her and Azzie are buried together.

Azzie would go on to become a Merchant Marine and he traveled all over, I found many passenger lists for him on ships he was working on. He seemed to of gotten his life together during this period and he would die 8 Aug 1979 in Portsmouth, VA.

What a life and what a story to tell for generation, he went to Germany, Libya, India and more here are some photos I found and newspaper articles about one of the ships he was on that sunk.


Above is the SS Western Farmer sunk in a Gale off the coast of England in Aug 1952

It had also hit a dock worker who was killed before they left for England, this was May 1952


Below was a ship he was on in 1959 called the SS  Azalea City


He seemed to of had a good life in the end.
