John S Childers aka Saundy was a half breed and was accused of murdering J.W. Wedding on 14 Oct 1870 by splitting his head with an hatched, while they were alone in a mining camp. The object was robbery.
Here is a article I found that says John would escape from jail during the year or more he spent there during 2 trials. The deputies always found him at home with his family.

You can tell by reading these documents he had a very good lawyer and he was very thorough. When I was reading through all these documents I saw his keen eye to details, even drawing out the area where the murder occurred.
But regardless of how hard his lawyer fought for him he was hung around the 16th of Aug 1873.
