I found a few newspaper articles.

He was burned with hot coffee 1944 while being held in jail before his conviction.

1946 he escaped

Spencer had been in trouble before he was arrested and convicted in Oklahoma for moonshine in 1941 went to Leavenworth Federal Prison for this.

He also was arrested for rustling and was inmate #36897 at the Oklahoma State Prison.

He was married twice that I found. first to Ella Mae Sawney they had 2 children a boy and a girl. Second he married Mrs. Patricia Ann Schumacher in 1942 in MO.

The 1950 Census has him as a residence in Folsom Prison.

I found his mother's obituary from 1960

He had 2 sister's Irene & Bennie French

Spencer died 18 Jan 1974 in San Joaquin County, CA.
I looked for his Leavenworth records but didn't find them, they should be at the National Archives if a family member would like to call or write for them.
