Carl Eaden: Grand Larceny

Carl Eaden was born 24 Nov 1886 in Niantic, IL to John J Eaden (1854-1900) & Georgina Martin (1866-1944).

In 1919 Carl was in Hobson, MT was with 3 other men, Charles Frasier, Leonard Larson, & J. H. Slothower, stole 3 hogs and killed them. Stealing hogs is grand larceny.  They were convicted and sentenced to Montana State Prison.

Hobson, MT currently has a population of 189 since 2021. Several scenes of the 1974 released movie, Thunderbolt and Lightfoot starring Clint Eastwood and Jeff Bridges were filmed in Hobson, Montana. These scenes were shot in the summer of 1973 in the St. John's Lutheran Church, the adjacent wheat field and in the Black Bull Bar & Steakhouse. ( Wikipedia)

They all got three to five years, I did not find Leonard's record.

                                I didn't find any children

Carl's father was a mean son of a gun and in July of 1900 a family tragedy would strike him and a brother-in-law down.

The story is Georgina Martin's (Carl's mother) brother George "Edward" Martin shot and killed her husband John in self defense, it eat at him until he took his own life in 1906. Read the newspaper articles at the links I posted. Very sad. They had already lost a son to a sickness of some sort.

Carl died 19 May 1941 in Decatur, IL and was buried the Fairlawn Cemetery.

Carl didn't get into any other trouble as far as I can tell. What a story and I added everything to the tree I made on Ancestry.

I love this stuff! Hope you enjoyed this story and please click the follow button and help generate my blog.
