Mrs. Matilda M. McKnight Murder Unsolved 1885

Matilda "Minnie" was born about 1862 most likely in South Carolina. She was married to John McKnight who worked for the United States Railroad Mail Service.

It is said that Matilda was a beautiful women and was Octoroon an 1/8 African. 

On the 8th of July 1885 she was murdered in a field not far from her house.

I found her death certificate on Ancestry see it below.



I did not find any other information for her or her husband John. I wonder if they had any children or how long they had been married she was only 22 years old. This is still unsolved, I wonder if a case file might still be around from the Pinkerton Detective Agency? The court records for John Daly might still exist. Such a sad story.
