Kate Stoddard

Kate Stoddard was suspected of killing Charles Goodrich 20 March 1873 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Beaten to death.

She was in a relationship with a Spaniard named Roscoe. She claimed he was the murderer.

Mary Handley a lady detective arrested Kate. This whole case was outrageous the way it was handled. Reading the newspaper articles you just shake your head like what. There was a public confession from Kate so they could trap Roscoe. Wow, As I read the articles I couldn't believe she help them, did they threaten her?

The promised confession which Kate was to have made on the inquest was suppressed, the Coroner sustaining the counsel who advised her to silence against the demands of the jury. The woman, it will be remembered, Was under arrest a week before the fact was made public. The theory is that she was to have been kept hidden until Roscoe could be captured.
