James Crum born about 1839 in Missouri, had blue eyes and dark hair. He was the best organized gang leader in the state of California in 1800's, A notorious horse thief. He was sentenced at least 21 times to prison.
From 1867-1871 he stole horses, sometimes he would 35 to 40 head. Small profits and quick sales were his motto.
In 1871 he was convicted of Grand Larceny (Horse stealing) prisoner number 10192, in Tuolumne County, California. Was sentenced to 10 years and discharged in July 1878.

on 21 Dec 1881 he was in San Quentin Prison for robbery as prisoner number 5061. Dec 1881, he robbed a stagecoach. Again, he was in prison 19 March 1883.
