Henry J. Fleishman: Went Missing With $100,000

 Henry Joseph Fleishman was born about 1862 in California.

He worked at the Farmer Merchants Bank and allegedly took $100,000 to $300,000 and was never heard from again.

That is all the genealogy information I could find. The 1880 census shows him at age 18 living in Los Angeles, CA at 235 #8 Main Street, as a Clerk in a bank. Parents birthplaces say Bavaria.

1900 Census he is still in Los Angeles, he is 37 years old divorced address 211 1/2 8th street. Parents born in Germany. he is a cashier at a bank. 

1890 He votes age 28, lives in Los Angeles at 625 South Pearl St. and working as a bank clerk.

1896 he votes age 34, lives in Los Angeles and working at Farmers & Merchants Bank.

He did have a charge of forgery on his record. The bank had insurance hopefully. 

Henry was about 5'7", 145 Ibs, brown eyes, brown mustache, brown hair thinning on top, might grow a beard which would have a reddish tint to it, and he wore a black iron ring on his middle finger.


Someone saw him take a train east on Saturday Morning 7th of Dec, after eating breakfast at LaGrande Station of the Sante Fe. He got off at Monrovia boarding the Pasadena train at Arcade Depot. Another report was he went far east to El Paso.

Some say he went to Mexico or Canada.

The Chief of police Elton issued a circular calling for his arrest with a reward of $5,000.

This was such a huge case, and it went cold fast.

In 1902 the bank got a summons
