Anita Kay Drake was born 14 Oct 1948 in Louisville, Stark, Ohio to Kermit Sutton Drake (1909-2003) & Virginia Eileen Thompson (1920-2007). She had many siblings.
She was a freshman at Louisville High School and liked school and got good grades.
On 15 Oct 1963 Anita left home on Victoria Ave in Louisville, OH, near Canton. To go to the Campion Dairy, she was never seen again.
At 4:30pm she told her mom where she was going. The temperature was 60 degrees and Anita put on a black coat over her white hooded sweater and gray skirt, beige flats and left the house for Capion Dairy. A hot spot for local teens, it was a soda fountain shop owned by Bill Campion and ran by Mama T.
She runaway to Texas with the help from one of her sisters and some close friends. She claimed she was being abused by a family member and they wouldn't stop, so she left. She changed her name to Lynda Lee Tucker went to Dallas; TX got a job waitressing in a cafe and later met Samuel Andrew Smith they married and had a daughter. Anita died 22 Mar 1994 in Texas. Her daughter found some papers with her birth name Anita on them and did some digging and did a DNA test and it was proven Anita was Lyndia.
Anita had told people she was orphaned when her parents died in a car crash.
In 2016, Anita's daughter learned of Anita's disappearance and submitted DNA to see if Anita was her mother. The positive match was made in March 2017. Anita had run away to escape an abusive situation. One of her sisters and some of her friends knew about it but kept her secret.
What an amazing story.
I searched newspapers and there are no articles on her missing in 1963, there is a case file on Charlie Project.
Her daughter is still living, and I won't give her name, but Anita's brothers and sister had interesting things to say about her disappearance later on. Leonard that she was dead in a ditch somewhere. There is a post that mentions a sister named Debby but I did not find any records that she had such a sister with that name.
