Corrina Loring: Unsolved Murder

Corrina Loring born 8 Feb 1909 in Cambridge, MA to George Arthur Loring (1880-1938) & Frances Van Allen Grimmer (1888-1962). She was engaged to marry Richard Tear.

At age 26 she was a Sunday School teacher. She disappeared on 4 Nov 1935; her body was found 9th of November. There was a cord or twine skillfully knotted around her neck by a very strong person, Teeth marks on her hand, a grey man's glove found nearby. A Scrap of paper with blood smear. Her bracelet and watch were also near her body.Some accounts note additional head injuries and a burn-like mark on her forehead. I found the following newspaper articles.

Corinna lived with her parents in a small cottage on Beech Street (now Taylor Street) in Mount Rainier, a small community near Washington, D.C. She worked as a stenographer, sang in the church choir, and taught Sunday school.

She and Richard Tear had recently set their wedding date for fall 1935, after an initial spring 1936.

On the evening of November 4, Tear arrived at her home around 8:40 p.m. to find it dark and empty; a note he had left was later discovered.

Corinna’s mother, returning from church, learned she was missing and called Tear and the police. Two days later, on November 6, 1935, her body was found about four blocks from her home in a wooded area then called Saddleback Ridge (now Upshur Street), near the site of Kaywood Garden Apartments.
