Reuben Burton Pitts School teacher in Inman, South Carolina.
Born 3 Oct 1882Laurens County, South Carolina.
On 24 Feb 1903 he was in his classroom teaching a class when for some reason he was discipline 17-year-old Edward Foster, was shot and fatally wounded by his teacher Reuben Pitts after he had jerked a rod from Mr. Pitts' hands to resist punishment. According to the teacher, Edward struck the pistol Mr. Pitts had drawn to defend himself, thus causing its discharge. Mr. Pitts was later acquitted of murder.
I cannot believe that he was acquitted.

He was married to Margaret Post, they had two children Isaac Post Pitts, & Mary Gertrude Pitts.
Reuben died on 25 Mar 1963 in Camden, North Carolina.
