Gwen you are amazing. Thank you for feeling this burden to tell these guys’ stories. I am in college and the Houston Riots of 1917 is my U.S. History term research paper. (I live in Houston too) I was just impressed and appreciate what you have done here. It has been a shocking research for me. I never heard about this event until 4 weeks ago but the more I learn about the riot and the real cause from the way these men were treated and provoked and then hung & imprisoned shames me. Oh well, with the info I'm finding I am now able to close my essay in a proper way...it has an ending rather than leaving it in the air with them all sitting in prison. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, and you are very welcome...I wrote a blog post on each of them and made a tree on Ancestry for each and added all this info to it and newspaper clippings....It is such a sad part of our history that many have no idea about and that is the saddest thing of all. These men served our country and deserve so much more.
