Mrs. Arva Case Aerial Performer To Theft And Drug Addict

Mrs. Arva Case was born about 1885 in Illinois. I did not find her maiden name or her husbands name. Arva was a Aerial Performer in the early 1900's.

The earliest records I found for her was this 23 Oct 1914
Hospital Mendocino State Hospital. She was admitted for addiction to Morphine and Cocaine, she used needles. She was using 8 grams of Morphine daily and 8 grams of Cocaine Daily. She said she had been using Morphine for the last 10 years and Cocaine for the last 2 years.

Above is what a typical addicts kit would look like.

She was arrested  in 1926 in San Francisco for drugs and did 6 months jail time. in 1927 she was arrested again in Los Angeles for drugs and was locked up for 50 days.

I found some very interesting newspaper articles about her early career and even a theft of a cloak from a store. With lovely photos to boot.

There are tons of article about this case.

1920 newspaper article about her dope habit

Somer more articles I found:

One of the articles mentions a man named Eugene Band she was having a relationship with. Eugene and his brother Archie had a few scrapes with the law.

Archibald Band

Inmate 17335 Folsom Prison
Crime: Vio State Poison Act

He was in and out of Folsom and San Quentin many times. I found an awesome wanted poster of him for safe blowing.

Their Father John Band fought in the Civil War for Tennessee in 1861. He was born about 1850 in Scotland and his wife Catherine Richards was born about 1850 in Ireland. They had a daughter named Mabel and another son named William and Clarence, all the children were born in California. John died 8 Aug 1898 in San Francisco, CA.

None of the other children had criminals records that I found.

I made Arva a tree named it Case Tree, hopefully someday I will find her maiden name that will lead me to her family and Mr. Case.

What a incredible story, she had started a career many could only dream of. What happened? Did the loss of her husband turn her to use drugs or was it Eugene? She wanted off the drugs so badly she begged to be locked up. Did she finally break free of her habit or did the devil come calling on death's door. I hope she broke free. She died 13 Dec 1933 in San Francisco, CA.

Rest in peace darling your free!
