Born Josefa Serrano 18 Oct 1902 in California, She married "John" Barney Ebarguarry (1892-1968). They married when she was about 14 years old and they had 11 children.

This is the chicken coop Mary was living in. This little girl went through pure hell from her mother and siblings. She was taken from the family and eventually adopted, I did not find out by whom but she died with her full name 30 Sep 2005 in Fresno, CA.
Josie was only sentenced to 6 months and her husband petitioned for a pardon and begged for her release so she could help at home with the children. At this time they had 8 children after her release they would add 3 more to the bunch.
The newspaper articles are very detailed about the family, where Barney works how much he made the ages and names of the children and Mary's progression as she was in the hospital.
It was also stated that the children had no toys or shoes as all the money Barney made went for shelter and food.
I stumbled upon this story as I was reading an article another story I was working on. Even though I do not have a mugshot or criminal records to attach, I felt it was an important story. Neglect is a crime and many have been incarcerated for it even back then.
