John J Cullen may perhaps be his true name, at least that is stated in the hospital records I will have posted below. Born about 1865 in Kentucky and his father being Michael Cullen.
Inmate #5264 Stockton, CA Jail
Arrested: 6 Oct 1917
Crime: Petty Larceny
Was committed to Stockton State Hospital
He was a sailor at some point in his life rather it was while in the military or an occupation, as he had a tattoo of an anchor.
John J Cullen states he was in a Railroad wreck he had a fractured skull, arm & ankle, his left finger was also injured. I looked through the newspapers and I didn't find anything on it.
He was also in Stockton State Hospital in 1914 for addiction to morphine.
He was also placed in Mendocino State Hospital in 1911.
His alias names were Charles Edwards and Lee Bohannon. These are the records and newspaper articles I found...I am not 100% sure about some of the newspaper articles.
14 Apr 1893
This could be his true name and why he was using alias, his first criminal record was also this name, which was common among criminals, the more they were arrested the more alias they came up with.
All three from 1897
1915
According to his arrest record he was sent to San Quentin Prison for receiving stolen goods, on 13 Aug 1885, he received a 1 year term and was discharged 12 June 1886. As Lee Bohannon born in Ireland about 1863.
Whoever he really was, he was in a lot of pain because of his injuries from the train wreck and ultimately is how and why he was addicted to morphine on and off in his life. I am sure some of the newspaper articles are him because of the details on his jail arrest record.
I found one death record that I think maybe him.
