He was married to Mary McCarty and they had a daughter named Nellie J Farr who was placed in a convent by her mother in San Francisco, Her mother changed her last name to Simmons. Mary sent payment to the convent for her education. I found a death notice with a story attached. Nellie was dismissed from the school, her mother got her a small cottage to live in and she died at 27 yrs 3 mo. on 7 Nov 1888. The newspaper article below has the sad details.

I feel so bad for Nellie, she never married or had children. Lived in shame and sadness.
