Adolph Fein: Forging Naturalization Papers

Adolph Fein was born about 1856.

Inmate #4926 Leavenworth    A jury convicted Adolph Fein of forging naturalization papers in 1905. The guards were convinced that Mr. Fein faked blindness to avoid doing work. They claimed he pretended not to know where he was and wandered around during meals. They took away his glasses and started locking him in solitary confinement. The acting physician told the warden that Fein had poor eyesight and that he was unable to work because he was injuring himself when working. On April 12, 1906, he was pronounced insane and as a result transferred to an asylum in Washington, D.C.

He was in the asylum in the 1910 & 1920 census.

He had a wife named Rosa born Aug 1876 in Missouri and they had a daughter named Annie Fein born Sep 1896 in Missouri.

There was a German language paper also. It was common for Italians, Jews and other immigrants to band together to help people immigrate.

They were getting naturalized 600 or more people. These people were not all entitled to naturalization. However, 600 new citizens could then vote.

1906 Rosa was in some trouble

I lost track of them all after this. I am going to assume, (which by the way I hate doing) that he died in the asylum and Rosa most likely remarried.

Adolph was the first Vice-President of Hebrew Jefferson Club, in St. Louis, MO I did some research on this and found nothing with his name.

You will never see this kind of stuff in a history book, this is why I love reading these old newspaper articles.
