Bernice Lorraine Pepperling was born about 1904 in Minnesota. SHe was married to Mr. Pepperling. She had several alias'.
She went to the prison to visit an inmate named Ed Voley (I am sure that spelling may be wrong). She smuggled a weapon in with her. she got a five year term in Anamosa prison, below his her record. She was received on 12 Oct 1923, she escaped 21 May 1924. I found three newspaper clippings.
The above record can be located on Ancestry in their prison collection:

Age 19 young love, will doing anything for her man. She was a Catholic girl to boot and this would have probably disowned her from her family. She escaped and wasn't found, or there are no newspaper clippings stating she was.
Her alias' were"
Bernice Lorraine Hamrin
Bernice Hannon
Marie Riley
She was was on the cover of this Fingerprint Magazine and her Mug Card I posted above is also located in this magazine.
I would like to learn more about her and Ed, did they stay together, I am thinking that most likely didn't. What was her life like, did she use alias' rest of life hiding from the law or did she finally get caught and do her time and live out the rest of life as a constructive part of society? Or was there more tragedy in her life? Guess we will need to wait for those answers until a descendant comes forward and leaves a comment for us to all these questions. I did search all her alias and didn't find anything. I also searched Ed and found nothing, this is why I think is last name was spelled wrong.
I find her crime particularly brazen, that could of ended very badly for her.
