Helene Holstein: Whittier Reform School

Helen Holstein was born 29 Oct 1892 in Germany, to Ernest Holstein 






Says she was delinquent and had also been in reform school in the east.

Here's an article I found where she had escaped from a reform school in San Diego.





I found a newspaper clipping for 1905 when Helen was 12 years old, she was assaulted by a grocer by the name of John Dierssen and Charles Rhoads Frank Pledenionte and William Brown. Click on the links to read the articles. This poor girl, these articles explain why she was in a reform school.
 






What a sad story, she was assaulted by these men, her father sends her and her mother away so she doesn't have to testify and then the case is dismissed. Wow. I also noticed she had a scare on her wrist, I am wondering if she tried to take her own life at some point during all this.
