I did find a 1938 newspaper article, this was the last one I found. 


I searched Ancestry and found him in the 1940 census in Folsom Prison, his name is James W. Baxton on the census. Says he was divorced and is 55 years old. But I didn't find any death records for him in Sacramento County, CA.
