Charles H Thiede: Murder

Charles H Thiede was born in 1860 in Pomerania, Germany to Carl Thiede & Louisa S. (????). He married Maria (Mary) Frank 1884 in Germany.

They had one child a daughter Annie Louisa Thiede 1883-1901

Charles was accused of murdering his wife Mary May 1884 in Murray, UT , She was cut from ear to ear. Here are some newspaper articles I found just click on the links to read them.

1894

1896
Hanging

His case went all the way to the Supreme Court, I found these in Google Books

He was hung at the Hand County Jail, UT on 7 Aug 1896 it took 14 minutes for him to die his neck didn't break so he strangled to death.

Charles maintained his innocents until the very end, but does that mean he was innocent? I am not so sure. While reading the newspaper articles I though he might of been until the last article when they explain their theory of the murder and how he did it.  It was said he confessed his guilt to several people. Mary was in fear of her husband killing her, he was brutal to her according to her neighbors and friends.

He was messing around with a young Danish girl. The day before her murder they had a heated argument and she ran to a neighbors house to spend the night.

The knife he used had been sharpened two days before it was used on his wife's throat.

Daughter Annie was adopted by Mrs. Koeen I found a death index and this was posted on Find A Grave
