Gladys Kate Petchey: Missing

Gladys Kate Petchey was born 8 Jul1902 in Brentwood, England to Harry Petchey (1875-1958) and Catherine Esther Rowing (1860-1925).

Her parents lived at 33 North End Ave Brentwood, England. This is what it looks like today. The white door is 33.

In July 1920 Gladys was working as a maid for Mr. & Mrs. Charles Rhodes in Kingsdown by Deal.

Gladys was 5' 9 1/2" tall, fair hair, blue eyes, fresh complexion.

Gladys had been missing for 13 days, her show was found, and a her cries for help were heard and yet no one helped or found her. Did she drown on her own or was she murdered by drowning?

If I saw someone struggling in the water I would of jumped in to save them, why didn't Colonel Sanrut try to save her? Was he telling the truth about seeing her? Was he the killer? Or did he just watch her drown?

Gladys had an older brother Walter John Petchey (1899-1978). He was the first to identify Gladys body but he wasn't sure and so their father came to identify her and he said yes it was Gladys.

Gladys mother died in 1925 was losing her daughter too much for her? I couldn't even imagine her pain for the loss of her only daughter.

This story is so sad and I wanted to share it as I did find some trees on Ancestry and no one has this information attached. I made Gladys a tree as well and attached everything to it.

What are your thoughts of Gladys death? I feel she was killed, as there were so many girls that went missing at this time and there was another ruled as a drowning in the Thames, I will do a story on her as well, she was Thrya Pound.
